TAF COP Portal: How to Check Every SIM Card Registered in Your Name

A friend of mine discovered by accident that there were two mobile numbers registered in his name that he had never used, never signed up for, and had no idea existed. He only found out because his bank flagged unusual OTP activity, which led him to investigate further. That conversation motivated me to actually check my own connections, and it's exactly why the TAF COP portal exists — to help you find out about such issues before a fraudster can do something more serious with them.

If you haven't heard of it before or have only heard the name without using it, this guide explains what the TAF COP portal is, how to use it, and why it's worth spending just five minutes on today.

📡 What Is the TAF COP Portal?

TAFCOP stands for Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection. It is an official portal launched by India's Department of Telecommunications. In simple terms, the TAF COP portal helps you instantly see how many mobile connections are currently registered under your identity — including your Aadhaar or any ID proof used to get a SIM card — so you can check if there are any numbers you didn't authorize.

This is more important than it sounds. These days, mobile numbers are linked to banking, UPI transactions, Aadhaar verification, and almost every OTP-based security check we use. If someone gets a SIM issued in your name using a fake or misused ID, they could intercept OTPs, access your accounts, or carry out fraud that traces back to you.

⚠️ Important Update: TAF COP Has a New Website

Old bookmark: tafcop.dgtelecom.gov.in — no longer valid.

Current official URL: tafcop.sancharsaathi.gov.in

The TAF COP portal has now been integrated into the broader Sanchar Saathi platform, which combines several telecom security tools — including Chakshu for reporting suspicious calls or messages, and device-tracing tools for lost phones.

✅ How to Check Your Connections

  1. Go to tafcop.sancharsaathi.gov.in.
  2. Enter your 10-digit mobile number — must be active and registered in your name.
  3. Enter the OTP sent to that number to confirm your identity.
  4. Your dashboard displays every mobile connection registered under your identity, with a total count at the top.

That's all. No paperwork, no store visit, no call center wait times.

🔍 Understanding Your Options

Once you see your connections list, you'll see action options next to each number — this is where people often make mistakes:

✔️ Required

This is your number and you're using it. No action needed.

➖ Not Required

This is your number, but you no longer use it and want it closed.

🚨 This Is Not My Number

Never authorized by you — triggers a deeper fraud investigation.

The difference between the last two matters a lot. Choosing "Not Required" when you meant "This Is Not My Number" means a genuinely fraudulent SIM might not get proper attention — take a moment with each entry instead of clicking through quickly.

🔢 How Many SIMs Are You Allowed?

Under current telecom regulations, most individual subscribers are allowed up to nine mobile connections in their name. If your dashboard shows more than that, or numbers you don't recognize, report it right away.

📊 Why the TAF COP Portal Was Created

SIM swap fraud and identity misuse are real, documented problems. According to a government statement made in the Rajya Sabha in February 2026, here's the scale of action already taken:

39L+Mobile connections disconnected
2.27LHandsets blacklisted
1.31LFraudulent SMS templates blocked

📞 What About Suspicious Calls and Messages?

The TAF COP portal focuses on SIMs registered under your identity. For scam calls, SMS, or messages impersonating banks or officials, use Chakshu — a related tool on the same Sanchar Saathi platform.

⏰ How Often Should You Check This?

Since new numbers can be issued at any time without your involvement, check the TAF COP portal every three to four months — similar to checking your credit report. It's free, takes minutes, and catches problems early.

Final Thoughts

Most people don't think about checking how many mobile numbers are registered under their name until something goes wrong. The TAF COP portal exists precisely to help catch these issues early — when they're just unfamiliar numbers on a dashboard instead of full-blown financial problems to fix.

Take the five minutes, check your connections today, and make it a habit going forward.
